The wait is nearly over as Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter One comes into land on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 27th!
Beyond, the third season for Frontier Development’s super space-sim Elite Dangerous will be landing for free to all players and will focus more on the abundance of community-requested enhancements to the overall player experience. Included with those core foundational changes are new in-game content that will progress the ever-expanding, epic, player-driven storyline and give all pilots across the ED galaxy new and powerful tools to shape the ongoing narrative.
With the release of Chapter One, the crime and punishment system in Elite Dangerous will undergo a series of changes and is one of the most hotly requested features to be added, especially from newer players who can find themselves up against extreme odds in the cutthroat, Open Play, PVP galaxy. Having a risk factor to crimes should help deter at least some of the games griefing obsessed pilots, the changes are designed to improve the game’s response to players’ criminal activities, aiming to make Open Play fairer and more competitive.
What this means in simple terms is the new Advanced Tactical Response will be on the hunt for repeat offenders, ‘Hot Ships’ attach crimes to players’ spacecraft, and new notoriety levels will increase the consequences for illegal activities making the galaxy a more challenging place for veteran pilots and criminally minded players, remember kids, crime doesn’t pay, even in the dark expanse of space.
One of the most anticipated changes is the introduction of GalNet Audio. Galnet is the main source of news in Elite Dangerous which up to now has been text-based only. The wealth of in-game news now becomes easily accessible as commanders can catch up on the latest updates and engage with the overarching narratives without ever leaving the action. Galnet Audio will read the new, text to speech style whilst you remain in full control of your ship, no more endlessly scrolling through news articles!
Begining on February 27th, new contacts will become available for Elite Dangerous Horizons owners as we get to meet the tech brokers, dealers of rare tools and technologies, who give players a chance to acquire new items based on their ‘personal narrative’ and experience. In addition, material traders will allow commanders to convert and exchange materials clogging up your inventory making engineering and unlocking missions with tech brokers more accessible, plausible and most importantly, enjoyable.
Beyond – Chapter One also features a large number of improvements and updates, including the addition of a trade data overlay that will aid commanders in finding the most profitable trades in the Milky Way. There are changes to the engineering mechanics which will ensure guaranteed improvement when crafting, a much-wanted overhaul of the mission rewards system and the introduction of a brand new combat ship, The Chieftain, built as a response to the ongoing Thargoid threat, the current Alien attacks occurring in areas of the galaxy.
Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter One will be available for free to all current players on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One starting February 27th.
