Kingdom Come Deliverance is finally within touching distance, one of the most eagerly awaited Kickstarter backed games can be in your hands (or hard drives) tomorrow February 13th!
To celebrate the team at Warhorse studios dropped the final trailer to get you fired up for some medieval ass kicking and exploration. Executive Producer at Warhorse, Martin Klima, addressed backers, players and then some with a heartfelt statement to thank them for their support of Kingdom Come: Deliverance over the past four or so years.
“Four years after our Kickstarter campaign, our game is set to be released tomorrow. The task was really big and our team although still quite small and we always wanted to deliver, to create the game we wanted and we believed you wanted. Before talking about some background, all of us at Warhorse would like to thank our community, the backers and friends who helped us to bring this dream to life by giving us the chance to develop what we believe is a unique RPG experience!
The production realities of game development mean that a ‘release’ version has to be finalised some time before the actual release date. We could have used this time to get some rest, or we could use it to create some additional content and sell it to you as DLC, but we went back to the version-to-be-released and worked on it. The results are obvious: quests are more balanced, RPG progression is smoother, the game runs faster and every facet of the game got more polish. The drawback of course is that most of the data in the old build was replaced and has to be downloaded as a patch. At a hefty size, it’s going to take some time to download and it’s a shame. Still, we strongly believe that after four years wait it will pay off to wait a little bit longer while the Day 1 patch is downloading. Trust me, it will deliver the awesome experience YOU deserve!”
So it’s going to be a hefty download but it should be well worth the sacrifice of storage space, I’ve personally had my eye on this game since the Kickstarter was announced and I am excited to dive in. The world of KCD is incredibly immersive, detailed and vibrant, it’s the closest you’ll want to get to life in Bohemia (present-day Czech Republic) in the 1400’s.
One of the most important things in Kingdom Come: Deliverance is it’s dedication to being historically accurate. The weapons, clothing, architecture and armour are all authentic to the year 1403. There will be extensive customisation for your knight and steed and again this will be true to life, no outlandish possibilities here, just good old (really old) fashioned armour and tabards to play with.
In addition to the swordplay, there will also be horseback combat to try and interactions with NPC’s that will shape your knight. Warhorse has confirmed that this is a classless RPG, you can develop skills and abilities in any way you want but they will also be shaped by your in-game actions and paths you decide to take, so bear that in mind during the timed interactions with NPC’s.
In a recent Reddit AMA Warhorse confirmed that DLC is planned for the future with many hoping the game follows a route similar to The Witcher 3 in terms of its add-ons and story expansion. The subject of Modding was also raised during the AMA to which Warhorse suggested it may be coming to consoles in the future, so stay tuned.
