Star Wars Battlefront 2 Microtransations are set to make a return to the game in the coming months following underwhelming sales figures over the Christmas period in comparison to 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront which sold a total amount of 13 Million Units within it’s Launch quarter. This year’s Star Wars Battlefront II which was targeted to move 10 million and fell short by 1 million as confirmed by EA CFO Blake Jorgensen.

Jorgensen also told the Wall Street Journal that Battlefront II will reintroduce Microtransactions “in the next few months” following the backlash from the gaming community over the holiday period.

To catch up anyone that may or may not have been living under a rock during this time; Star Wars Battlefront 2 launched with Microtransactions enabled and players were having issues progressing in the game getting the gear they want directing players to purchase Microtransactions and the gaming community as a whole was in uproar about the $60 title having pay to win mechanics. During this backlash, a user on Reddit was complaining that they paid $80 to not be able to play as Darth Vader to which the EA Community Manager account tried to step in to diffuse the situation but ended up having the most heavily downvoted comment in Reddit’s history.

When this all started, mainstream media outlets began picking up the story with articles like this Forbes article raising concerns about EA damaging the Star Wars brand and potential impacts on families with children playing the game.

“As a parent, I want to teach my kids the value of teamwork, practice and fair play. How do we explain that in this game if you can also get ahead by spending more money?” – Erik Kain

We currently do not have any more information than the fact that the Microtransactions will be returning to Star Wars Battlefront 2, however I would be curious to know how they will return.
