Avengers 4 officially wrapped earlier this month, but Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders were snapped yesterday filming as Nick Fury and Maria Hill.

We know for sure that the two were filming an upcoming Marvel movie. But right now it isn’t clear exactly which one, and what it could mean for the popular S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Although Avengers 4 has officially wrapped, were Jackson and Smulders brought in for a couple of reshoots?

Nick Fury
Samuel L. Jackson & Cobie Smulders were spotted filming in Atlanta

It’s highly publicised that Infinity War and its sequel will star pretty much everyone from the MCU, so it would make sense for Fury and Hill to make an appearance, however Jackson has specifically said he won’t be appearing in either of those movies. Speaking to Yahoo Movies in August last year he said “I wasn’t in the ‘superhero argument’ movie [ie Captain America: Civil War], I’m not in Avengers 3 and 4.”

What we do know, is that Kevin Feige has confirmed that a pre-patch Nick Fury will appear in Captain Marvel. Based on the pictures taken of Jackson this could definitely make sense, as although filming hasn’t officially started for that movie, we do see the actor in his Fury get-up sans patch.

In one image, we see Fury without his eye-patch but with scarring around his eye, while in another the patch is on. As Captain Marvel is set in the 90’s it would make sense that Fury hadn’t yet suffered the injury that gives him his trademark look, and we may even get to see (no pun intended) how his eye got messed up in the first place.

Nick Fury
WIll Nick Fury really not appear in Infinity War of Avengers 4?

So this filming being for Captain Marvel is a pretty good bet. However, the fact that Doctor Strange and his Eye of Agamotto infinity stone have now been brought to the MCU table means it’s very likely Avengers 4 could involve time travel. Which would also allow Fury to be patch-less…

There’s also the argument that although Jackson said he wouldn’t be in Avengers 4, he could absolutely have been toying with us. I mean it does seem weird that he wouldn’t be involved in Marvel’s massive Phase Three hero showdown.

So we can’t say for sure exactly which Marvel project these shots are from, but we’re definitely glad that Fury and Hill will be getting some more mothaf***in screen time.

Avengers: Infinity War is released in the UK on April 27th. Avengers 4 follows in the UK on April 26th, 2019. Captain Marvel opens on March 8, 2019.
