Venom starring Tom Hardy is well into production right now, and there are some interesting rumours circulating that the MCU’s own web slinger could be making an appearance in the movie.

The fact that a Venom movie is actually happening in the first place still seems pretty wild, so these revelations are hard to take seriously, but they come from respected source. Jon Schnepp, a major comic book movie commentator, who regular contributes to the Collider Movie Talk panels and hosts the Collider Heroes show every week.

Yesterday Schnepp said: “Spider-Man is gonna be in Venom. I’m talking about the Tom Holland Spider-Man is going to be in Venom… It makes sense for them to have Spider-Man in the Sinister Six and other Spider-Man movies”.

All well and good, but just sounds like an opinion, albeit an extremely well placed one. But Schnepp backed up his statement further with apparent evidence, stating “Tom Holland was on set filming scenes on Venom for at least two days as Peter Parker. I’m not saying Spider-Man will appear. When I’m saying Tom Holland Spider-Man is in the film, I’m saying Peter Parker. There is semantics you can play around with. This is a cameo.”

Perhaps there’s some real truth in these rumours then, as Schnepp would have little motivation to lie and would look foolish if the movie came out with no appearance from Holland. What this does do is cast serious doubt on the comments of Marvel head Kevin Feige, who’s been pretty adamant that Venom is not a part of the MCU. Perhaps not?! What’s your game, Kev?

Schnepp is more tactful in his response to Venom‘s place in any wider universe, saying it will be “Marvel-adjacent“. But does that mean it will be just as much a part of the timeline as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or the Netflix universe of shows? Up until now it’s definitely felt as though it would be a Sony entity entirely, but if Holland does appear as Peter Parker, there’s no way it isn’t an MCU movie.

Schnepp did acknowledge though that Holland’s appearance will likely be minimal, adding “I’m guessing that it’s probably a cameo or a walk on or a brush by ‘Watch it, buddy’ kind of scene but probably a bit more. He’s definitely not a central part of the plot but Peter Parker and the Spider-Man universe is definitely part of the Venom universe. And will be expanded on if Venom is successful in Venom 2. Venom 3 is where you will see them throw down.”
