It seems like an eternity ago that Blizzard announced the Overwatch league but it’s finally here. Housed in its own shiny new arena in L.A and playing host to rosters of the very best Overwatch players in the world.

The opening week kicked off on January 11th with the San Francisco Shock taking on The L.A Valiant in the opening game and right from the off there was action.

The day shaped up and ended as follows…

Jan 11th

San Francisco Shock   0 – 4   L.A Valiant

  Shanghai Dragons     0 – 4   L.A Gladiators

                Dallas Fuel   1 – 2    Seoul Dynasty

         London Spitfire   3 – 1   Florida Mayhem

  Philadelphia Fusion   3 – 2   Houston Outlaws

Jan 12th

Boston Uprising   1 – 3  New York Excelsior

Jan 13th

NY Excelsior       3 – 1  Houston Outlaws

L.A Valiant          3 – 0  Dallas Fuel

Florida Mayhem  0 – 4  Boston Uprising

SF Shock             3 – 1  Shanghai Dragons

London Spitfire   4 – 0  Philadelphia Fusion

Seoul Dynasty     4 – 0  L.A Gladiators

The London Spitfire, L.A Valiant, NY Excelsior and Seoul Dynasty all picked up double wins and soared to the top of the table whilst Shanghai Dragons, Florida Mayhem, and both Texas teams, Dallas Fuel and Houston Outlaws all suffered double losses, hampering their starts to the inaugural season.

There was a wealth of talent on display with London Spitfire (one of the favourites to win) showing exactly what they have come to L.A to do, with the largest roster in the league the Spitfire are already showing that their South Korean line up is already a force to be reckoned with and feared as the season moves to week two.

L.A Valiant also put on a fantastic show and didn’t concede a single point against them chalking up 4 to nothing and 3 to nothing back to back wins which sees them take the top spot of the league.

The Boston Uprising also deserve a shout out for picking up the W against the Mayhem, after losing to NY in the opening bout the Uprising came back and stole the show from the already rocked Mayhem side. Seen as a somewhat development squad, the Uprising is made up of players which much less experience than their rival teams but they are showing that their not afraid and that they deserve to be where they are, more power to them we say.

The standings so far…

  1. L.A VALIANT                         W2/L0
  2. LONDON SPITFIRE                W2/L0
